U2′s The First Time…Again.

cup-of-joe

Sure I can pick you up at the mall, I’ll be right there. Let me get the door for you. As soon as I put my seatbelt on, we can head out. I know we just met, but you look so incredibly hot! I hope you don’t think I’m being too forward, but should we do it right here in the car or wait until we get back to my place? You’re right, my place has more options, I like the way you’re thinking. Don’t mind my schoolboy giddiness, it’s been a while. Actually, it’s been five long years. You too? The last time I did this, it wasn’t really that magnificent, so I’m hoping this time will be better. Just sit back and relax. How about some music for the ride, any preferences? Leonard Cohen, really?  Here we are, let’s go inside and get this party started. I’m thinking a nice bottle of red, you? Guinness, and keep them coming? You got it. Have a seat and get comfortable. Listen, I’m really not into chit chat, so let me cut right to the chase, I like it loud, can you get loud? Screw the neighbors, I’ve earned this. If I don’t go crazy tonight, I will go crazy. I’m nervous, can you tell? You’re nervous, too? Alright, here I go. Oh, that is sooooo nice. I like what you’re doing there. YES! YES! DON’T STOP! Another hour of this is going to be fantastic.

(An hour later) That was Incredible, even better than the real thing. My God, I didn’t think it could be that good. I’m going to let you rest. Tomorrow, we’ll do it all over again, but in the car this time, OK?

How are you planning on spending your 1st night with your new U2 CD?  ;)

And sorry about your last time not being magnificent. It was earth-shattering for me. I don’t know what went wrong with you.

    My expectations are a little higher than yours Leeny. I always want a 10 & last time I got a 6. ;)

You get out of it what you put in to it, Joe.
    Only a 6, eh?

Leeny, remember I’ve been there from the beginning. When compared to their total catalogue, yes NLOTH is a 6. It rivals Pop. Just like ATYLB went it the opposite direction than Pop, so will this new CD. U2 themselves gave up on NLOTH by dumping most of it half way through 360. Sorry, #’s don’t lie.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
    .
NLOTH is still my favorite, with JT and October close behind.
    .
As I see it, NLOTH reveals a long-awaited μετἀνοια (metanoia)… a change of heart and mind that naturally flows into day-to-day actions. It is the roar that lies on the other side of silence/complacency/self-centeredness. It is an awakening to the purpose of life, perhaps one that comes with age. Thematically, for me, it is the opposite of all that makes me uneasy listening to AB start to finish. NLOTH makes me uneasy, but in a healthy challenging kind of way, and I love it even if I don’t always live it.

If the new CD moves in a completely different direction, I hope it’s a good surprise, and not a sell out to number crunchers.

I respect your love for NLOTH. I don’t have a problem with NLOTH lyrically, it’s musically where U2 lost me. Magnificent, Stand Up & the original I’ll go crazy are classic U2 sounds, I get Moment, but it’s not in my normal rotation, but the rest is sub par musical for me. Every time U2 goes away from their classic sound & anthems it costs them. Think NLOTH & Pop.

Joe, your descriptions are very funny. :)

And now I imagine how I will spend my 1st night (and hours before that night) with my new U2 CD:
I´ve been waiting and yearning for this special day a very long time and my expectations are high! For me the last time was beautiful and I´m curious for a new experience. I apologise, because in the morning I can only say a brief hello. I must join a conference and then my regular work begins. This day is long and it´s difficult to stay concentrated, because you´re in my mind all of the time…I know that´s not enough! When I come home in the evening I´m nervous. Can you hear my heart beating fast? I hope my behaviour is not too scary for you, but I need to remove your thin plastic wrapping immediately. I close all doors and windows, because the neighbours shouldn´t hear us. This is a private show and our celebration! When I listen to your first words I´m mesmerised. Everything you tell me sounds so beautiful and I need MORE! Hope for your understanding when I start singing, jumping and dancing (you might think I´m crazy). I forget to look at the clock for a while until I realise that it´s already 2:30 am. It´s Tuesday and my job waits for me. Sorry, but I should try to get at least a few hours of sleep. See you again soon!

I will open a bottle of red wine, cabernet, get comfy and lay on sofa. I’ll take my time and let your voice caress my ears, listening to your sweet lies, heart beating so fast while I melt…
And when finished we’ll do it again and again, we’ll spent the whole night together and the morning will meet you sleeping in my arms…

You´re welcome, Joe. You always find entertaining ways to express our yearning for a new U2 CD. Your great writing is a source of inspiration and fun. And if at least a few songs rock like Stand Up Comedy our neighbours will have to be careful of powerful music with high volume! Then we´ll enjoy a Guinness and celebrate! :)
