Today’s article practically writes itself. I mean, really – I’m sure that there are some out there somewhere who weren’t impressed (some people are just never happy) but even the most casual U2 would have to be head over heels in love with the band after this past week. Tuesday was one of the coolest promotional gimmicks I’ve ever heard of in my life, and it was done with such style, such panache, that it left an indelible mile-wide grin on my face. Love them or hate them, people are talking about U2 again, and that’s never a bad thing. The best part is that this just the first salvo in a multi-pronged attack. Even if it’s another five years before “Songs of Experience” drops (which I doubt) we’ve at least got the physical release of “Songs of Innocence”, with at least a handful of exclusive, original tracks, to look forward to next month. After that, who knows? Their next move could be anything at all – they’ve proven that they still have the ability to shock and awe, and it’s just one more reason for us to love U2.
