Jimmy Fallon, U2 make a Birmingham Girl’s NYC subway ride unforgettable

A Birmingham-area student and parent didn’t just see the biggest band in the world this week. They got a selfie with Bono.

Restoration Academy parent Phaye Wilson heard the strains of a familiar song in Grand Central Station Monday, so she and student Kayla Brown followed the music. The source? U2, disguised as subway buskers with late-night host Jimmy Fallon.

The skit is set to air today on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, which runs locally on NBC 13 at 10:35 p.m.

Kayla was one of seven Restoration Academy juniors who traveled to New York City for the school’s second annual Cultivating Hope trip. That extracurricular program brings a group of juniors to New York in an effort to introduce them to new opportunities. Restoration Principal Brian Goessling established the program with several of his friends from high school.
