U2 have revealed when they’ll release their new album – and it’s just in time for Christmas.
‘Songs of Experience’, the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2014’s smash hit ‘Songs of Innocence’, will be released on December 1.
The record will launch on World Aids Day in conjunction with Project Red, the fundraising charity Bono set up to fight the disease.
But thankfully fans won’t have to wait until then for new music from the band.
The album’s first single, ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’, will be released on radio from Friday, September 8, the Irish Sun reports.
2FM DJ Dave Fanning – a longtime friend of the band – has heard the new music after visiting Bono’s Killiney pad earlier this year, says it’s worth the three year wait.
He told the newspaper: “New U2 stuff always excites me because its great hearing new stuff from a band you love. It’s definitely out this year.
“I had a listen to it at Bono’s house and it’s not unlike Songs of Innocence, or the Joshua Tree.
“What’s great is new songs mean something to U2. They take their new material seriously, in a way that the Rolling Stones don’t.”
He added: “The songs I heard were more personal from Bono, singing about later on after he left Cedarwood Road. Reflecting back on his life.
“I like the way Bono comes clean and wears his heart on his sleeve. This is very, very personal.”
He added that ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’, is the perfect choice for the band’s first single.
Dave said: “It’s a great tune and much lighter than anything on Songs of Innocence. It’s the perfect single.”
