There’s nothing like being part of history. It seems like anytime someone finds out that I’m a U2 fan, they want to tear the band down, and it’s true that U2 don’t have a lot of high-charting singles in the US where I live. I even read occasionally where some celebrity, like Noel Gallagher, has shot off at the mouth about what a crap band U2 are. It’s easy to forget, sometimes, that, even aside from my personal affection for the band, U2 really are one of the most important rock bands of all time. More Grammys than any other group, ever. The litany of their accomplishments goes on and on, but suffice it to say, when U2 do something, anything, it’s a big deal. It’s really magical to get swept up in the excitement that surrounds the band anytime an album comes out or they pull in to town, but it’s even better to think that each of us that follow the band are a part of history. All of those records they’ve broken, the awards and honors the band’s received, yeah, the band’s earned them, but we, the fans, made it happen. That’s a pretty cool feeling.
